Inerrancy means that the Bible is completely true and without error in all that it affirms, because it is the very Word of God.
The doctrine of inerrancy flows from the nature of God Himself. If God is perfect, holy, and true, then the Word He breathed out must share those qualities. Scripture is not partly reliable and partly mistaken—it is wholly trustworthy, down to its very words.

Inerrancy means that the original writings of Scripture contain no errors in what they teach. Every statement of fact, command, and promise is true. This does not mean the Bible uses modern scientific language or avoids figures of speech. It means that everything it affirms is accurate, consistent, and without fault (Proverbs 30:5).
2. The Source Of Inerrancy
The foundation of inerrancy is inspiration. Paul wrote, “All Scripture is breathed out by God” (2 Timothy 3:16). Because God is the author, the Bible carries His character. Jesus said, “Your word is truth” (John 17:17). To doubt the truthfulness of Scripture is to question the truthfulness of God.
3. The Scope Of Inerrancy
Inerrancy extends to the whole Bible. The psalmist declared, “The sum of your word is truth” (Psalm 119:160). Jesus affirmed the details, saying not “an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished” (Matthew 5:18). From Genesis to Revelation, the entire canon is God’s infallible Word.
4. The Defense Of Inerrancy
Throughout history, Christians have confessed the inerrancy of Scripture. When challenged, the church has stood firm that the Bible cannot err, because God cannot err. Even when human culture shifts, God’s Word remains fixed and reliable (Isaiah 40:8). Apologetics defends this truth against skepticism and unbelief.
5. The Fruit Of Inerrancy
Inerrancy gives believers confidence. We can read the Bible knowing it will never deceive us. It is a sure foundation for doctrine, preaching, and living. As Jesus declared, “Scripture cannot be broken” (John 10:35). This truth strengthens faith and fuels obedience.
Why This Matters
If Scripture contained errors, we could never fully trust it. Doubt would cloud every doctrine, and confidence in salvation would crumble. Inerrancy anchors us in God’s unchanging truth. It assures us that every promise stands, every warning is real, and every command is binding. The Bible is not just mostly true, indeed, it is entirely trustworthy.
