Evangelism is sharing the good news of Jesus Christ so others may repent, believe, and receive eternal life. It is every Christian’s calling to proclaim the gospel with love, truth, and urgency.
Evangelism is not a sales pitch. It is not forcing someone into a decision. Evangelism is the simple, Spirit-empowered act of telling people the greatest news in the world—that Jesus Christ came to save sinners. The word comes from the Greek euangelion, meaning “good news.” And this news changes everything.
The heart of evangelism is found in Jesus’ own words: “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation” (Mark 16:15). Evangelism is not a job for a select few. It is a command for every disciple. If you know Christ, you have a story to tell.
1. Rooted in the Gospel
True evangelism begins with the right message: “that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day” (1 Corinthians 15:3–4). This message is not about self-help, moral improvement, or religious tradition. It is about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the salvation He offers.
2. Carried by the Spirit
We do not change hearts. Only God does. But He uses our words as the means to call people to Himself. In Acts 1:8, Jesus promises His disciples, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses.” Evangelism depends not on our skill, but on His power.
3. Lived and Spoken
Evangelism is not only what we say; it is also how we live. Paul urged believers to “walk in wisdom toward outsiders” (Colossians 4:5). A holy, loving life makes the message credible. But the gospel must also be spoken. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ (Romans 10:17). Silent witness alone is not enough—we must speak.
4. For All People
The gospel is for every tribe, language, people, and nation (Revelation 7:9). Evangelism crosses cultures, generations, and social barriers. Jesus spoke to Nicodemus, a religious leader, and the Samaritan woman, an outcast. No one is beyond the reach of His grace.
5. Urgent and Hopeful
Eternity is at stake. Scripture is clear: those who die without Christ face judgment (Hebrews 9:27). That reality fuels our urgency. But evangelism is not driven by fear alone—it is powered by hope. We believe that “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13).
The Joy of Evangelism
Evangelism is not a burden but a privilege. We are ambassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20), carrying the message of reconciliation. There is no greater joy than seeing someone pass from death to life, from darkness to light, because they heard and believed the gospel.
Why This Matters
Without evangelism, the gospel stops with us. The Church grows when believers are faithful to share Christ in their homes, workplaces, neighborhoods, and beyond. Evangelism is the link between the cross of Christ and the people who need to hear about it.
Faith Lesson
Ask God for one open door this week to share the gospel. Pray for boldness, clarity, and love. Remember: the results are in His hands, but the obedience is in yours. You are not called to save anyone—you are called to tell them about the Savior.
