The resurrection is the rising of Jesus Christ from the dead on the third day after His crucifixion, proving His victory over sin, death, and Satan, and securing eternal life for all who believe.
The resurrection of Jesus is the cornerstone of Christianity. Without it, the cross would be tragedy, and our faith would be empty. Paul writes, “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins” (1 Corinthians 15:17). But Christ has been raised, and because of that, everything changes.
1. The Reality of the Resurrection
The resurrection was not a vision, myth, or metaphor. It was a real, bodily rising from the dead. The Gospels record eyewitness accounts—Mary Magdalene at the tomb (John 20:11–18), the disciples in the upper room (John 20:19–29), and over five hundred witnesses at once (1 Corinthians 15:6). The tomb was empty because Jesus was alive.

The resurrection demonstrates God’s power over death itself. Romans 6:9 says, “We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.” What no one could conquer—sin and death—Jesus conquered once and for all.

The resurrection confirmed that Jesus truly is the Son of God (Romans 1:4). It proved that His sacrifice on the cross satisfied the wrath of God and secured salvation for all who trust in Him (Romans 4:25). The empty tomb is God’s declaration that the debt of sin has been paid in full.

Because Christ was raised, all who believe in Him will be raised, too. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live” (John 11:25). His resurrection guarantees our future resurrection, when He returns and makes all things new (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17).

The resurrection is not just about the future—it changes how we live now. Paul writes, “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:2–3). Because Jesus lives, we live with a new power, new purpose, and new identity.
The Centrality of the Resurrection
The apostles preached Christ crucified and risen. The resurrection is the reason the Church exists, the fuel for evangelism, and the anchor of Christian hope. A dead Savior could not save. But a risen Savior reigns forever.
Why This Matters
The resurrection is proof that Jesus is who He claimed to be. It shows that God accepted His sacrifice, that death does not have the last word, and that every believer has a living hope (1 Peter 1:3). Without the resurrection, there is no gospel—but with it, there is eternal life.
