Communion

« Return to Main Glossary

Communion is a church ordinance, instituted by Christ, where believers partake of bread and the cup, representing Christ’s body and blood, to commemorate and proclaim His atoning death. Paul refers to it as a “participation in the body of Christ” and should be preceded by careful self-examination to avoid taking it in an unworthy manner. (Matthew 26:26-28, Mark 14:22–25; Luke 22:18–20; 1 Corinthians 10:16-17, 11:23–25)

Communion is also referred to as: The Lord’s Supper, The Lord’s Table, The Eucharist
